Michigan State University will lead a team of scientists to improve the effectiveness of the sea lamprey sterilization program by increasing the potency of the sex pheromone that sterile males release. The team will deploy the technique at scale by developing a procedure to generate large numbers of pheromone-potentiated sterile males and a protocol for releasing them. Preliminary data indicates that the success rate of the project would be roughly equivalent to doubling the current sterile release program.
