The applicants propose to conduct a preliminary assessment of how insurance mechanisms can be used to substantially reduce the number and severity of instances of biological invasions. The project team will explore the risks posed by biological pollution; assess the underwriting criteria that should be used to price insurance polices against such damages; and investigate a variety of pooling methods that could be employed to fund claims. The project team includes attorneys, scientists and insurance professionals.
