Leadership for Ecosystem Restoration |

General Guidelines |
This project will identify industrial water use practices that support production, optimize costs, and minimize ecosystem impacts. It will establish how best to evaluate industrial water use and environmental impact relationships. The project seeks to provide answers to such questions as: What tools are out there? Which best describe impacts? What water use assessment process is best for judging impacts? Which apply best to the Great Lakes? Will it inform Great Lakes water resource managers on how to best satisfy industry water use needs? What measures can industry put in place to minimize environmental impacts? What measures can resource managers utilize to promote or ensure application of optimum water use practices? The project will look briefly at how best to implement the findings of this water use characterization project as a "next step" in a follow-up project proposal. The intent is to inform policy and action in a way to benefit the ecosystem while respecting economic constraints. |
